Nature photographer and digital designer. Bird watcher and nature lover. Everyday wanderer. Since I was young, I have found comfort, peace, and happiness in nature. For 19 years, I was a high school Language Arts teacher and student publications adviser. I bring this experience with me to my work today, and a lot of my photography and design knowledge come from my time teaching my journalism and yearbook students about creating a professional print product. I have been craving a more genuine online experience, and though I am new to Substack, I believe it may be just the place I've been looking for. I am already enjoying connecting with other artists and writers, and finding a place that feels a lot more like a real community.

Retired in 2015 on health grounds, I live on a large converted former Dutch cargo barge, my island of tranquility on the River Medway estuary. Neuropsychiatrist suggested a couple of months ago that I should join SubStack. A lifetime interest in the creative arts. I’m now restricted to photography using my phone!

Self-taught photographer and writer. Originally from Belgium, i’m now based in Lisbon, Portugal, after a few good years in London, UK. In my personal projects, my practice of photography is that of a flâneur and consists in letting curiosity guide the camera as i walk around. My projects often explore the relation between text and photographs In the Tales of Ink and Light (Substack), I combine the languages of words (the ink) and pictures (the light) to tell stories about the strange world we live in.

“I am a woman in my 50s and have been making photographs since 1987 on film and paper, but have spent my entire life enchanted by light and shadow. If only it were possible to print the memories in my head before I had a camera. I primarily use a digital full-frame Canon camera, but have had the opportunity to use a Hasselblad medium format and own a Mamiya 645 medium format that I take out occasionally. Sometime I even use my iPhone when carrying a larger camera is not convenient.”
