Thank you for these words of inspiration. They definitely pulled out a story. Can’t wait until the next challenge. 🙏

The last long wishing game

Left me consuming memories of missing

You

With your gems for eyes

Through interstellar gas and dust, piercing

Me

On a quest for answers in the words I wrote

That suspended history with threads of

Us

Sipping sweet wines

When I preferred to drink the rich red

Crimes

Between us that is all that remains

Of the ecstasy we shared in those Chesterfield

Nights

That seem so relentlessly empty now

Void of your hot blood rushing alongside the

Jazz

Rhythms rolling over the peaks and valleys

We discovered when we were both

Lovers

Locked in the lingering legacies of time

Defined by two magnetic polarities pulled forcefully into a

Kiss

I never wanted to end

But now leaves me wondering at the phenomenon of

You.

I’m new to Substack and just saw this post about an hour ago, so decided to try it. It’s rather basic, but at least a start

Lost

The wish is yours

Lost among the interstellar gems that traipse

Across the sky

It will return

Only when missing wishes can discover

Other ways to fly

So until then

Don’t hold your breath waiting, for results might lapse

The wish might die

The wish is yours

However fleeting, there’s always another

Wish to try

I hope this is the correct place to post my poem today. This is a snapshot of my estrangement, almost ten years since meaningful contact with my youngest child, who will soon be 32. The note he wrote was “from the mountain” when he was 8 or 9. I still have it, along with some of his drawings and other art work.

Challenge 2:

missing, wish, blame, gem, lost, long, phenomenal, crime, history, interstellar

“You’re a gem to me

And always will be:”

Remembering this written note

From my lost son, written so long ago.

I know that love he felt for me

Is still carried in his heart,

But he went missing somewhere interstellar,

Somewhere out of my skewed orbit, saying

I’m to blame for the unknown crime

Of giving him a history to run from.

“You’re a gem to me

And always will be:”

Perhaps I still could be,

If my phenomenal wish could find its way

To your door, one fine day.

Love remembers Love.
